New members appointed to Access to Justice Commission January 16, 2020 The Mississippi Supreme Court has appointed Hinds County Chancellor Tiffany Grove of Raymond, law professor Shirley Kennedy of Ridgeland and attorney Lisa Koon of Iuka to the Access to Justice Commission.  Chief Justice Mike Randolph issued the appointment orders on July 14. Chief Justice Randolph also reappointed Commission members including Justice Leslie D. King of Greenville, Hinds Court Chancellor Denise Owens of Terry, Circuit Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders of Natchez, attorney Trena Williams of Hernando and David Calder of Oxford, who is associate clinical professor and director of the Child Advocacy Clinic at the University of Mississippi School of Law. Judge Grove’s term on the Access to Justice Commission is through June 30, 2021. She filled the unexpired term of Patricia Gandy. Chief Justice Randolph in the order said, “The Court offers its sincere thanks to Patricia Gandy for her dedication to access for all persons to the courts of Mississippi.” All other appointees will serve three-year terms set to end June 30, 2023. Judge Grove has served on the Hinds Chancery Court since January 2019. Kennedy, an attorney, is director of Child Advocacy and director of the Family and Children’s Law Center at Mississippi College School of Law. Koon is a frequent volunteer with pro se legal programs offered in the First Chancery Court District in north Mississippi. The Supreme Court created the Access to Justice Commission in June 2006. The Commission works to develop and recommend policies, programs and initiatives which assist the judiciary in meeting needs for civil legal services to the poor.
